SB 19 -- MOTOR VEHICLE REGISTRATION FEES
SPONSOR: Shields (Schaaf)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on
General Laws by a vote of 6 to 2.
This bill requires the Department of Revenue to issue a refund
for the unused portion of a license plate registration fee if the
refund is greater than $5. Currently, a person can only receive
credit for the unused portion of a license plate registration
fee.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on General Revenue Fund in FY 2008,
FY 2009, and FY 2010. Estimated Cost on Other State Funds of
Less than $100,000 in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill allows an owner who
registers a vehicle for two years but sells it before the
registration expires a refund of the unused portion.
Testifying for the bill was Senator Shields.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
